From 15 to 17 May 2026, the International Center for Mathematical Sciences in Sofia (ICMS-Sofia) at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) hosted the international conference Celebrating Women in Representation Theory, organised as part of the activities of the Quantum Groups and Cluster Algebras research group.

The conference was officially opened by Peter Boyvalenkov, Director of IMI, who emphasised the importance of such events for strengthening the institute’s role as a leading centre for international scientific cooperation. A welcoming address was also delivered by Velichka Milousheva, Deputy Director of IMI and of ICMS-Sofia, who noted that the conference continues the initiative Women in Mathematics in South-Eastern Europe, first launched in 2020.

The conference highlighted the contributions of women mathematicians in representation theory, one of the most dynamic areas of modern algebra, through presentations of recent scientific advances, discussions of current research challenges, and opportunities for new collaborations.

The conference was organised with the support of the Simons Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Science, ICMS-Sofia, IMI, and the Scientific Program Enhancing Research Capacity in Mathematical Sciences (PIKOM).
